Autumn Term Newsletter 1
Welcome Back!
Wow, where did the six weeks of summer holidays go?!
Welcome back to all our Sunbeams children and grown ups, and an extra special welcome to the new children joining us this term – we are sure that you will soon settle in, make friends and learn lots of new things with us. The staff at Sunbeams have all been very busy planning lots of exciting activities for you all to enjoy over the next few weeks.
This first week will be all about settling in, establishing routines and finding out about the things that interest the children so that we can plan activities based around the areas and topics they enjoy most. One of our focused activities will be decorating our folders where all our learning information goes; and outside we will be exploring and investigating our new mud kitchen – Karen has been very busy creating over the summer holidays!
It is our vision to develop our outdoor area over the next term or so – Karen O and Jo A recently completed their Introduction to Forest School course…
and all of the staff will shortly be taking part in an outdoor learning workshop to investigate how we can utilise our wonderful setting and outdoor area even further. We are also keen to start the development of the sensory garden following a super year of fundraising – more to follow soon!
Enjoy your week!
Scarecrows and canopies
It has been another exciting and busy week at Sunbeams. The children got stuck in helping to prepare our two Sunbeams scarecrows for the Surlingham village/FOSS scarecrow trail – what do you think of the jolly looking pair?
The children at Sunbeams received a visit from Mrs Steward the Early Years teacher at Surlingham Primary School, they had a lovely time getting to know each other and sharing some of our lovely Sunbeams activities with her. Thank you very much for taking the time out to come and meet us Mrs Steward – some of us will look forward to seeing you again at ‘big’ school on Friday 4th July!
You may have noticed some building work taking place over the weekend if you were passing – we are delighted that work on the new outdoor canopy has started. The canopy will provide a permanent covered outdoor area for the children to play in and will enable us to offer more flexible opportunities for free flow between the two main areas of the pre-school.
This is how it is shaping up so far –
We will of course keep you updated on the progress.
Finally, the letters of the week (week beginning 30th June) are W and X – how many Xylophones do you think the staff would like to hear playing in unison…;) Good luck with finding something to show and tell!
Shapes
This week at Sunbeams, the children have been looking at familiar 2D shapes, learning their names, finding them in our environment and have also created some colourful pictures using the shapes they recognise.
This week the children have enjoyed eating (or at least trying…!) radishes from the Sunbeams garden for snack.
The letters of the week are ‘s’ and ‘t’ – much easier than last week! What will your little Sunbeam bring to show and tell?
Remember to check out this link to hear the correct pronunciation of the sounds – this is the way your child will learn them when they move to primary school.
P.S – Hopefully you will have noticed our all new website is live by now – have a good look around, feel free to leave us any comments or feedback about the site or Sunbeams itself, and please share it with anyone who might be interested!
Father’s Day
This week the children at Sunbeams have been thinking about fathers and other people who care for us. Can’t say anything else until Sunday 15th… <sshhh!>
We held our first ever Stay and Play session on Monday – thank you to all the parents and carers who stayed on to hear about some of the activities that we set up at Sunbeams – we hope it was informative and offered an insight into our planning and how that feeds into your child’s development. Please leave us any feedback on the session either on the parent’s board at the Pre-school, or on our comments form here on the website.
Our latest fundraising total for the sensory garden is £742.30 – thank you so much to everyone who has contributed in some way already.
Our letters of the week our ‘q’ and ‘r’ – good luck with finding an object to share!
